LAJTA, BÉLA
LAJTA, BÉLA (1873–1920), Hungarian architect. Considered an outstanding representative of Hungarian architecture, Lajta was influenced by Ö. Lechner and used folkloristic motifs and ornaments in his early projects. Later, however, he was among the first to turn from Secession to straight lines. His works, among them the Rózsavölgyi-house and the gas works (both in 1911–12), are protected historical monuments in Budapest. (Eva Kondor)
